Diggin biochar is better for soil
Diggin is designed to be the best soil amendment; so we use ash wood and pyrolysis. The top 3 ways in which it is better for soil:
A Microscopic Coral Reef
Our unique “Benzine Rings” create a rigid structure that acts as a permanent habitat for beneficial fungi and bacteria to thrive.
Diggin Nutrient Magnets
Unlike gasified ash, our biochar has special chemical bonds that grab onto water and nutrients, keeping them right where your roots need them.
Centuries of Stability
Our biochar is “recalcitrant.” It won’t wash away or break down. One application improves your soil structure for hundreds of years.
Better by Design
Diggin is better because of the way it is made; preserving the internal structure of the fallen ash wood through continuous pyrolysis.. This is a low-and-slow process carried out in a completely oxygen-free environment. This is very different from the approach used by many high-volume biochar producers, who often rely on gasification. The resulting biochar less effective as a soil amendment.
Pyrolised biochar is better because:
- it has a different structure with more “benzine rings” and ion structure. This allows better nutrient and water retention
- it is “recalcitrant”, so that it captures carbon far better and forms a more solid structure
